CITY OF OSWEGO TO “SMOKE” SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM
The City of Oswego is concerned about possible leaks in the city’s sanitary sewer system.
Leaks in the system can allow large amounts of rain water to enter the city’s wastewater system.
The City plans to conduct a smoke testing of the system beginning Monday, November 6, 2012.
City Superintendent Donnie Allison has arranged to have the testing completed by the Kansas Rural
Water Association, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to cities and rural water districts.
Homeowners are advised that basement floor drains or any unused drains in homes or businesses should
be filled with water on the days the smoking is scheduled. During the testing, workers will be walking
through neighborhoods trying to detect any smoke surfacing over sewer line routes or in homes and
businesses. Anyone who notices any of the smoke in their home or business during the testing should
contact City Hall at 620-795-4433.
The smoke that is used is harmless; people should not panic if they notice smoke, just call City Hall.
The following PUBLIC NOTICE will be mailed to residents with their October City Utility Bills.
